What is a Good Neighbour Agreement? How does it work?

A Good Neighbour Agreement is a tool that promotes relationship building and mutual understanding between community organizations and special care facilities.

These voluntarily negotiated agreements promote meaningful communications amongst stakeholders and support the successful integration of care facilities into the community.

The City recognizes the value of Good Neighbour Agreements and the process used to reach them. It will help initiate stakeholder discussions and may facilitate the dialogue and negotiations.

In 2009, the city facilitated a ground-breaking agreement between Fresh Start Recovery Centre and the communities of Highland Park and Thorncliffe-Greenview. This agreement laid the foundation for long-term healthy stakeholder communications, accountability and strategies for resolving concerns.
